We are home! Vacation was wonderful and filled with fun and laughter, family time and just the right amount of peace and quiet. Of course, since I am the Mom, arriving home meant unpacking and a small mountain of laundry. Now I know that some of you don’t mind laundry, some of you love it, but I am not one of those who do. Laundry is my least favorite household chore (truly, I would rather clean toilets than do laundry). Nonetheless, I found myself in the basement working through a load of wash that was ready to be folded, while my mind was working through the details of our upcoming week. I came upon my daughter’s newest favorite shirt (Angry Birds). I felt pretty sure that the next morning as she headed off to vacation bible school, this would be her shirt of choice. And without thinking, I prayed “Lord, help her to have a great day and learn more about your love.” Next out of the dryer came some socks, and I prayed, “Guide the steps of my daughter the day she wears these.” Then some of my socks, “Lord, guide my steps as I walk this day.” Then it was a sheet (yes, I was folding a white load) and my prayer was for blessed and restful sleep. In no time, my whole load was folded and I had covered my household in prayer. Now perhaps all you laundry lovers have done this forever, but this was new to me. The best part, of course, was that I enjoyed my laundry chore, and as I carried the clean things up to rooms and closets, I felt that I was tucking a week’s worth of secret prayers into our dressers and lives.
